The Uttarakhand government will be distributing Ivermectin, an antiparasitic drug, among the residents of the state as a preventive medicine against the spread of Covid-19, a senior official said.
The Uttarakhand government’s announcement comes after Goa and Karnataka issued similar directions.
The decision was taken on the recommendation of the state-level clinical technical committee, an order issued by Chief Secretary Om Prakash to all district magistrates said.

The panel has recommended the Ivermectin tablet as “mass chemoprophylaxis” to effectively control the surge of Covid-19 infection apart from the vaccination drive, the order said.
The 12 mg tablets of the drug will be distributed in a kit to all families through the health department and district magistrates, the order said.

Dosage
Usually, Ivermectin tablets have to be taken by adults and those above 15 years twice daily for three days after breakfast and dinner. One person will thus need six tablets and a family of four will need 24 tablets. Hence, each kit will contain two dozen tablets, the order said.
Children between 10-15 years will take only one tablet daily whereas those aged between 2 and 10 years can be administered the drug only after doctor's advice. The tablet cannot be given to children below two years, pregnant women and those suffering from liver diseases, it said.
The kit will come with directions on how to consume the medicine and dosage for different age groups. Information related to the daily distribution of the kits should be sent to the state nodal officer, the order said.
Goa
Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had on Monday said all people above 18 years will be given Ivermectin drug irrespective of their coronavirus status to bring down the number of deaths due to the viral disease.
Rane had said that people will be given Ivermectin 12 mg for five days as expert panels from the UK, Italy, Spain and Japan have found a statistically significant reduction in mortality, time to recovery and viral clearance in COVID-19 patients treated with this medicine.
Karnataka
On Tuesday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and state's Covid task force head C N Ashwath Narayan said 10 lakh Ivermectin tablets have been procured and their supply will begin on May 14.
It has been further decided to procure 25 lakh tablets and make them available in all hospitals across the state, he said.
Medical experts, however, have questioned the efficacy of the five-day duration of the drug regimen announced by Goa government saying the treatment should not be given for a short period but ideally be continued till the pandemic is brought under control.
WHO's warning
Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation has warned against the use of Ivermectin to treat COVID-19.
“Safety and efficacy are important when using any drug for a new indication. @WHO recommends against the use of ivermectin for #COVID19 except within clinical trials,” Soumya Swaminathan, WHO Chief Scientist said in a tweet on Tuesday. However, regular use of the oral antiparasitic drug may significantly reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19, according to a review of available data by researchers who claim the medicine can help end the pandemic.

The research, published in the May-June issue of the American Journal of Therapeutics, is the most comprehensive review of the available data on Ivermectin taken from clinical, in vitro, animal, and real-world studies, its authors said.

Ivermectin. Une scientifique de l’OMS risque la peine de mort
Le 25 mai, l'Indian Bar Association (IBA) a intenté une action en justice contre le Dr Soumya Swaminathan, scientifique en chef de l'OMS, l'accusant d'avoir causé la mort de citoyens indiens en les trompant sur l'ivermectine.
La scientifique de l’OMS est accusée d’avoir commis un tweet trompeur le 10 mai 2021 contre l'utilisation de l’ivermectine qui a eu pour effet que l'État du Tamil Nadu a retiré l'ivermectine du protocole le 11 lendemain. Il venait juste de déclarer ce traitement efficace contre Covid-19.
Si le Dr Soumya Swaminathan est déclarée coupable, alors elle pourrait être condamnée à la mort ou à la prison à vie.
L'avocate Dipali Ojha, principale avocate de l'Association du barreau indien, a menacé de poursuites pénales le Dr Swaminathan « pour chaque décès » causé par ses actes de commission et d'omission. Le mémoire accusait le Dr Swaminathan d'avoir commis une faute en utilisant sa position d'autorité sanitaire pour servir les intérêts particuliers de la lucrative industrie des vaccins.
L'ivermectine est un médicament bon marché qui est prescrit comme antiparasitaire. Il a gagné en popularité pour la prévention de la covid-19. L'OMS et la FDA n'approuvent pas l'ivermectine mais de nombreux médecins et scientifiques pensent qu’elle est efficace. Certains affirment que les États indiens qui ont utilisé l'ivermectine ont obtenu de bien meilleurs résultats et beaucoup moins de décès dus à la covid que les États indiens qui n'ont pas utilisé l'ivermectine.
Dans les régions de Delhi, de l'Uttar Pradesh, de l'Uttarakhand et de Goa les cas ont chuté respectivement de 98 %, 97 %, 94 % et 86 %. En revanche, le Tamil Nadu qui a choisi de ne pas utiliser l'ivermectine, le nombre de cas a explosé et est devenu le plus élevé de l'Inde. Les décès au Tamil Nadu ont été multipliés par dix.
Dans un test portant sur plus de 4 000 personnes en Inde (plus de 3 000 ont pris de l'ivermectine) et plus de 1 000 n'en ont pas pris. Les résultats ont montré que 2 % des personnes ayant pris de l'ivermectine avaient une covid confirmée par un test PCR et que 11,7 % des personnes n'ayant pas pris d'ivermectine avaient une covid confirmée par un test PCR.
Les accusations spécifiques incluent la conduite d'une campagne de désinformation contre l'ivermectine et la publication de déclarations dans les médias sociaux et grand public pour influencer à tort le public contre l'utilisation de l'ivermectine malgré l'existence de grandes quantités de données cliniques montrant sa profonde efficacité dans la prévention et le traitement de la covid-19.
Campagne de désinformation de l'OMS ?
